Does anyone remember it being incredibly foggy Halloween night? Yeah, this was from that long ago - now my “Snippets” posts have a strange timeline and are all jumbled up. But that’s the way my memory is anyways. Is yours like that? We were bored around 3 in the morning and embarked on an adventure - walking in the dense fog, standing in the middle of the street, long...

Had these rolls of film sitting around and finally got them developed. It was really rainy a while ago (maybe a few months ago). I remember waking up and hearing the rain. And scrambling to put on my boots and a jacket and telling my sleepy roommate “I’m gonna go take pictures in the rain!” I really don’t know what I’m doing. I’m just having fun.

First Wind: Flight
A good friend asked a few of us to participate in the 14th Annual Shikishi Exhibition at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. The theme being “Hatsu Kaze/First Wind,” my mind gravitated towards flight and the feeling of floating or free-falling. For this new year, all I can really hope is that I will continue to work hard and perhaps, some dreams will take...

Ran away from a New Year’s Eve party. Wasn’t really in the mood to celebrate and really just wanted to be a hermit (and sit and draw at home). A friend described being unfestive as being “bitter about having nobody.” Pretty close.

Recently spent a day in LA catching up with some friends I hardly see during the semester. Gloria introduced me to this cute spot - Yellow House Cafe. I finally got my fix of a sweet potato latte… Their bulgogi quesadilla was quite good - but you could probably try making it at home. It’s sort of a pricey place for their drinks, but it’s got a cute vibe that brings...

Sketchbook
I’m not very good at keeping a sketchbook, but it’s a habit I’ve been trying to build. Sometimes I’ll screenprint a layer of whatever’s on my screen before I blast it out with the pressure washer.  Took a shot at observational still-life drawing a while back. Cameras are pretty complex shapes. This is all in my Moleskine Sketchbook (5x8”?)....

A few last minute shopping trips and a free new pair of Nike Free 3.0’s - from all those years of redeeming those Coca Cola points. My mom’s still shaking her head at my color choice. These crazy colors don’t go with my everyday wardrobe, but who says I can’t wear them to the gym?

It’s been a crazy month. I’ve watched the sunrise more times this month than I have throughout my entire life and am still quite in disbelief about how much I have set out to do and have done.

Hello Hello
I’d like to ask - what more would you like to see from this blog? Do you care to read more captions and thoughts in my posts, or would you rather it continue being mainly photographic (because pictures are worth a thousand words or something)? Want to hear about my feelings (ha!)? I’d like to get to know you guys better too, drop some messages and we’ll have conversations.

CMYK Halftone Printing
Most recent screenprinting endeavor: CMYK Halftone printing (layers of tiny halftone dots, creates a full color image using just 4 runs). I’ve got pretty subpar registration skills, so this project was really daunting. It was a nice quiet day in the shop that day though… Printed alongside a friend of mine, Torres (he really doesn’t update his blog or have much of a web...

Papel
Recently got the chance to embark on a paper making journey in my bookmaking class. It can be kind of finicky and tricky, and often frustrating… but I guess it’s a little therapeutic and a nice break from churning out new books every class.  Cotton and abaca papers, mixed with processed banana peel, artichoke, and onion. Hemp paper mixed with curry powder, dill, corn husks, and...
